Direct Instruction - The importance of mastery for students with low cognition

In a society where young people study Homer and Shakespeare upon starting secondary school, despite some having the reading age of 6 a year old, and not being able to spell their own surname, or recite the alphabet - how can we possibly expect them to succeed?

With rigorous curriculum content and tight time constraints, how can students with low cognition possibly stand a chance at a decent education?

The truth is, they don't, and we can't afford to let this continue.

This session highlights how Engelmann's Direct Instruction transforms the trajectory of struggling students in Secondary education in the UK.
