UNOWA is bringing MIKKO, its complete inclusion system for SEND, to mainstream schools in England at a time when demand for personalised support is growing and specialist capacity remains limited. MIKKO is designed to help staff identify emerging needs earlier, decide where support should begin and carry an individual plan into everyday classroom practice. It brings the full support cycle into one connected model: assessment, priority-setting, planning, practical resources, training and day-to-day coordination.

At the heart of MIKKO is a simple idea: inclusion works only when support can be delivered in practice. MIKKO therefore combines three essentials: the physical environment, a developmental framework and day-to-day planning support. Together, they help mainstream teachers move from understanding a child’s needs to acting on them during an ordinary lesson.

The first part is the physical environment. Support for a child with SEND is often physical before it is procedural: the room they learn in, the materials available to them and the space they can use to regulate, focus and participate. MIKKO equips classrooms with practical inclusion kits mapped to specific developmental needs, from visual sequences and picture-card tasks to social stories and sensory tools. This turns a written plan into support that is visible, structured and usable throughout the school day. UNOWA has delivered inclusion spaces at national scale, including 14 inclusion classrooms created under a World Bank programme in Kazakhstan.

The second part is the developmental framework. MIKKO’s Six Developmental Domains framework helps staff build a structured picture of a child across academic, sensory, social, speech, daily-living and physical development. It translates that picture into priority goals and a practical support plan built around the child, rather than treating a diagnostic label as the plan. The framework draws on more than 15 years of UNOWA’s research and more than 100 practical guides. Training helps staff use it in everyday practice, including when a specialist is not present.

The third part is a 24/7 AI assistant. It helps turn assessment results into workable next steps, supports SENCOs in coordinating provision across the school and helps parents understand what support their child is receiving and why. AI assists planning; it does not make decisions or replace professional judgement. The assistant is designed to reduce repetitive administrative work, improve consistency and make individual support easier to sustain over time.

This connected model is what makes MIKKO a full-cycle inclusion system. Assessment, resources, training and digital support are often treated separately. MIKKO brings them together so that schools can move from identification to action within one practical model. This approach has received international recognition: MIKKO won the IFIP Global Inclusion Award at Bett 2026 and Best Special Needs and Inclusion Solution at the ETIH Innovation Awards 2026.
