Supporting Inclusion: DSUK Showcases Early Years and Primary Education Programmes at TES SEND Show
A young boy with short light-brown hair and glasses is smiling brightly. He is wearing a white polo shirt under a maroon school jumper, with a light background behind him.

Down Syndrome UK (DSUK) is proud to be exhibiting at this year’s TES SEND Show, where we will be focusing on our innovative Early Years Development Programme (EYDP) and Primary Education Programme (PEP).

These programmes have been designed to equip early years practitioners and primary educators with the specialist knowledge, tools and ongoing support needed to help children with Down syndrome thrive in mainstream education.

With 65% of children with Down syndrome now attending mainstream schools – a huge rise from just 38% thirty years ago – the need for practical, Down syndrome-specific training has never been greater. Yet, research shows over half of teachers and nearly a third of teaching assistants have not received any training tailored to supporting pupils with Down syndrome.

DSUK’s EYDP and PEP are already proving highly successful nationwide. They offer:

  • Tailored training aligned to the learning profile of children with Down syndrome

  • Practical resources to use immediately in the classroom

  • Ongoing support for educators, ensuring inclusive practice is sustainable

Kelly Toshak, deputy headteacher at Rhws Primary School, said:

“Being part of the Primary Education Programme has given us a wide variety of resources and professional learning opportunities, deepening our understanding of how we can support young learners with Down syndrome. It is reassuring to know we have a point of contact for advice and support when needed.”

Founder and CEO of DSUK, Nicola Enoch, added:

“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive alongside their peers. With the right training and support, inclusive education not only benefits children with Down syndrome but enriches the whole school community.”

Come and visit Down Syndrome UK at the TES SEND Show to learn more about the EYDP and PEP, explore our resources, and see how we can support your setting.
