License to Play: More Than a Pen Licence

10 Oct 2026
Cognition and learning

A pen licence recognises presentation. But writing success is far more complex. This practical session explores why writing can feel overwhelming, particularly for neurodivergent learners, and shows how multi-sensory strategies and games can transform outcomes. Through rehearsal-rich activities and games, we’ll explore how to reduce cognitive load, strengthen sentence construction, build vocabulary and develop spelling fluency. Delegates will leave with practical strategies that move beyond capital letters and full stops towards confidence, automaticity and writing voice for all.

Target audience: SENCO’s / Leaders, Practitioners / Support staff, Parents & Carers

Target Key Stage: Key Stage 1, 2, 3

Settings Targeted: School, Alternative provision, Tutoring
