Including children with SEND in the early years - prioritising a sense of belonging and connected relationships

10 Oct 2025
SEMH

Inclusion starts with a genuine welcome and a commitment to build and strengthen every child’s feelings of belonging , being understood and valued for who they are. Strengthening whole setting inclusive practice must involve prioritising and building strong connected relationships amongst staff, parents and children. As part of this session we will consider a framework for ‘Attuned Teaching’ which embraces ‘relationships for learning'.

By the end of this session you should:
•    Be able to reflect upon how relationships play a role in current inclusive practice and identify opportunities to strengthen this.
•    Be able to share with colleagues and parents the importance of relationships at the centre of inclusive practice.
•    Have an improved understanding of ‘Attuned Teaching’ and where to go for more in-formation.
