Practical support for young wheelchair users and schools

11 Oct 2025
Physical and Sensory Difficulties

We will explore and share findings from our Youth Board’s ‘Making the Grade’ research, based on the school experiences of young wheelchair users, from the perspective of school colleagues and young wheelchair users. We will be discussing what we have learnt from the research and provide practical steps school colleagues can take to improve inclusion for young wheelchair users in school.

By the end of this session, you should be able to understand:

•    The barriers school colleagues identified when supporting young wheelchair users.
•    What makes young wheelchair users feel included at school.
•    Practical steps and resource signposting to improve inclusion for young wheelchair users at school.

Why attend this session?

With the right support, young wheelchair users are on a roll. Find out how to ensure your school or setting is accessible and how you can take practical steps to improve wheelchair access for everyone that needs it.
