Preparing Young People for Adulthood – The Role of Further Education
This presentation will discuss the importance of preparing for adulthood (PFA) from the earliest age to support the development and aspirations of children and young people with SEND. Linda will share a brief history of the transition to FE as supported by the Children and Families Act 2014 and Code of Practice 2015: 0 – 25, how this links to education, health and care plans (EHCPs), the Annual Review and PFA. Pupil voice is essential to identifying career prospects and Linda will explore what pupil voice can look / sound like and how to recognise and encourage career prospects and aspirations of young people, through supported internships and their benefits.
