Let's talk about advocacy and navigating the education system with dyslexia
Marcia will share her lived experience as a Black dyslexic individual and a parent of a young person navigating the educational system with dyslexia.
Drawing from her diverse roles as an educator, dyslexic advocate, and parent, Marcia will provide invaluable insights into the complexities of Special Educational Needs (SEN) support. She will highlight crucial aspects of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the Children and Families Act (2014), offering practical knowledge to enhance your understanding and effectiveness in supporting neurodiverse learners.
In addition, Marcia will discuss her book, Black, Brilliant, and Dyslexic, sharing the journey that led her to write it and the importance of building confidence and self-esteem in dyslexic individuals as well as the importance of representation. This talk promises to be both informative and inspiring, emphasising the significance of recognizing dyslexia and neurodiversity within our educational systems.
Marcia will also address the critical transition to adulthood, sharing strategies and resources to empower young people with dyslexia to thrive.
