If SLCN is the answer, what is the question?
Want to know how to identify / support pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and understand fundamental building blocks of oracy, literacy, confidence / self-esteem and self-regulation?
This session provides good practice examples and looks at evidenced approaches.
Finally, you can plan next steps in identifying / supporting underlying causes of unwanted behaviour, school anxiety, emotional wellbeing issues, poor academic achievement and friendship difficulties through the lens of speech, language and communication.
By the end of this session you should:
• Recognise the importance of speech, language and communication skills in and out of the classroom
• Be aware of tools that can support identification of SLCN
• Consider steps to take to screen pupils for SLCN
• Link pupil needs and staff skills with intervention and support strategies
