Supporting students with lowest levels of language
We are seeing increased numbers of children in schools with significant language needs; children who are pre verbal or struggling to learn basic language skills.
They may have complex communication needs, a diagnosis of autism or may have Developmental Language Disorder.
This session explores how children might present and the possible foundation of their language needs. It offers a range of practical suggestions to help support these children.
Learning Outcomes:
• To understand how to identify the needs of children with the lowest levels of language
• To understand underlying needs and consider the impact of language needs on children’s interaction and broader learning
• To have a range of strategies to support those children who have the lowest levels of language
• To consider how to track progress of these children
