Moving the focus on behaviour training from managing distress to preventing distress | Restraint Reduction Network
Restrictive practices can be distressing for pupils who are restrained a s well as staff that have to restrain. This session explores the benefits of training teachers and teaching assistants in proactive approaches that minimise the risk of pupils becoming distressed in order to reduce over-reliance on restrictive practices.
By focusing on positive school cultures, this workshop demonstrates how preventative strategies can support behaviour, reduce distress, better meet needs and improve outcomes for pupils and staff.
Delegates will explore the role of quality-assured training in helping teachers to respond to pupils’ needs more effectively, saving time and resources over time. The session will also highlight how these approaches promote wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and align with what’s in the best interests of children and the teachers who support them.
