Deborah Salsbury
Deborah Salsbury is the founder of The Reading Doctor, an award-winning UK literacy tuition franchise delivered by qualified teachers, supporting children nationwide to become confident, capable readers. She began her career in 1993 as a class teacher and later trained as a Reading Recovery teacher with UCL, becomingn The Intervention Lead in a mainstream school.
Frustrated by the limitations of one-size-fits-all approaches, Deborah developed a unique, evidence-informed system and created bespoke resources to unlock the potential of struggling readers, particularly older and neurodivergent learners. For over a decade, she and her network of Reading Doctors have delivered this approach in mainstream schools, pupil referral units and specialist settings, transforming outcomes for those who have not responded to traditional methods.
Deborah is a board member of The Tutors’ Association and is a recognised voice in SEND and alternative provision, advocating for personalised, trauma-informed approaches that enable every child to achieve and thrive.
