Prior to joining Ofsted, Jo’s background was in all-through special schools, including for pupils with autism, severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties. Jo has held a range of leadership roles including middle and senior leadership, headship and executive school leadership in all-through special and multi-site settings. Jo has an MA in Education.

In her earlier career she was a teacher in mainstream primary schools as well as a music subject teacher in secondary.
